Aftershocks continue, ML 4.4 tremor recorded in Dhading

A light tremor of local magnitude 4.4 jolted Dhading district on Wednesday morning.

The National Seismological Centre (NSC), Lainchaur,  listed it as an aftershock of the Gorkha earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25 last year.According to the NSC, the tremor originated from a location west of Marpak and north-east of Tripureshwor of Dhading at around 7:04 am today. The coordinates of the epicentre are given as 28.01°N, 84.94°E.

The last significant aftershock of local magnitude 4.0 or above was recorded at 10:31 am on May 5. The ML 4.1 aftershock had its epicentre in the border area between Gorkha and Dhading districts.

Aftershocks continue even one year after the devastating earthquake that caused massive loss of life and property in Nepal.

NSC recorded more than 30,000 aftershocks of the Gorkha earthquake sequence in year.

It, however, processed the data of about 450 significant aftershocks and alerted the public about the seismic events through its website.

Meanwhile, NSC had recorded a separate earthquake in Kalikot district of the far-western Nepal on May 4. The earthquake was of local  magnitude 4.0.
