The Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project (KVRIP) has resumed expansion of 53 kilometres of road segments in Kathmandu valley.
The KVRIP has started widening Tripureshwor-Kalanki, Chabahil-Jorpati-Sankhu, Jorpati-Sundarijal, Lagankhel-Satdobato, Imadol-Siddhipur-Godawari, Karmanasa-Harisiddhi, Dholahiti-Sunakothi-Chapagaun and Nakkhu-Bhaisepati-Bungamati stretches.
The road-widening plan was affected by the earthquake and an Indian blockade last year, according to officials.
“Locals from Teku and Thankot also had opposed the drive, causing some delay,” said Manoj Shrestha, chief of the KVRIP.
The road expansion drive was initiated by former prime minister Baburam Bhattrai in 2011.
For the road-expansion drive, Shrestha said KVRIP has received Rs 550 million for this fiscal year. “We still need over one trillion rupees to complete this project,” said Shrestha
