The government is going to give the Tinkune-Maitighar stretch the quality of Tinkune-Suryabinayak road section.
Kathmandu Valley Road Expansion Project Chief Shyam Kharel said design of the 2.66 km Tinkune-Maitighar stretch of the road is in the final stage and the project will be completed within two years at an estimated budget of Rs 660 million. “The new road will have quality similar to the Japanese-made Tinkune-Suryabinayak road section. The road will have three lanes and two service tracks on either side with a three-metre wide median strip,” added Kharel. “The total width of the speed will be 21 metres and the service track will be 14 metres wide.”
After the Department of Road approves the design within a week, bidding documents will be prepared and tender notice published. “We are also thinking of undisturbed intersections and overhead bridges for pedestrians,” said Kharel.
The challenges ahead are to clear utilities — drinking water pipes, electricity lines and telephone and cable connections. A committee led by Central Region Road Director Devendra Karki will find solutions for the challenges. Besides widening the road, the project will build two bridges over the Bagmati and Dhobi Khola rivers.
Kamalpokhari-Gyaneshwor-Ratopul road widening is under way. Metropolitan Traffic Police Division chief DIG Ganesh Raj Rai said the clearance of encroachments in the Valley has already eased traffic flow and the new constructions will further smoothen it.
