Tremor felt in Kathmandu Valley, epicentre in Sindhupalchok

The National Seismological Centre said it recorded a light tremor of local magnitude 4.6 in Sindhupalchok district of central Nepal at around 10:12 pm this evening.

The NSC listed it as an aftershock of the April 25 earthquake. With this, 430 significant aftershocks (of local magnitude 4.0 or above) have followed the devastating ML 7.6 earthquake that struck Nepal.

The shaking was felt in several districts of central Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley.

The NSC’s preliminary report showed the aftershock originated at a location with coordinates 27.84°N and 85.71°E. This shows the epicentre lies north of the district headquarters Chautara, and close to Syaule and Selang of Sindhupalchok.

A moderate aftershock of local magnitude 5.5 was recorded in Sindhupalchok district at 10:05 pm on Friday evening.
